In my case, I did not provide a whole lot of direction. I chose a few songs/themes that were important to me, but left the rest up to him. He did a fantastic job playing the right music at the right time (dinner/cocktail music, dance music at the right time). And, once you sign on with him, he sets up an account for you that allow you to select any songs you want, which I think is a great idea. I told him certain things that I did not want, and he followed my directive. He basically ran the show, but from a behind-the-scenes kind of way. Carl is not an "in your face DJ" . . . not obnoxious, not cheesy. As for the sound system, I thought it was just great. I received several compliments on my choice from all types of people at the reception, ranging from my teenage stepdaughters to my mother-in-law. Even the staff at Maggiano's (where I had the reception) asked where I found him and said he was great. They said they would recommend him as well if asked. I can safely say that about 90% of the attendees were up and dancing and didn't stop until the end. And again, that age range was 15 through 67! As for his singing, he only sang one song (Amazed by Lonestar), and it wasn't until about halfway through the song did people realize he was singing. Some didn't even realize he was singing until we mentioned it. That to me is a good gauge, when they sound just like the artist. In addition to all of that, he and his wife make a great team, and they are genuinely nice people.
