"Our wedding was beautiful!"
Laura
Dallas, Texas

Our wedding at Off The Grid was perfect! We got married there last month and had both our wedding and reception there. The owner of the building, Bruce, was extremely helpful from the moment we emailed him. We used his in-house catering and the food was delicious and there was plenty of it. If you're looking for a wedding venue that is unique, DIY and extremely flexible (they let us bring in our own alcohol which saved us tons of money), this is a great place to do it. Our guests keep telling us it was one of the best weddings they ever attended. And, what a beautiful view of downtown Dallas!

"Neat venue...but too many red flags"
Dallas
October 26, 2010

this venue looks super cool...however when we checked it out...there were way too many red flags that kept us from booking there... 1. we had scheduled a tour to check out the facility with the owner...but when we got there...we walked up to the screen door and saw that he was speaking with another couple—which is totally fine...that wasn't a big deal for us...however, when he glanced our way through the door... he didn’t greet us at all, but rather he SHOUTED to another fella, that he had to do "another one"... and then just went back to talking to his other couple….not the warm greeting you would expect from someone who wants you to give him a check for $3K...found it rather unprofessional. 2. The other fella was very nice—I would characterize him as “very cool”…someone you would enjoy meeting and chatting with in a bar….but he was really sweaty—not that he could help it….this was June and it was like 100 degrees in there….so our immediate first impression was…”we have an appointment, the people before us had an appointment, they knew we were coming…WHY isn’t the AC on????? It’s 100 degrees outside! He was dressed super casual (who could blame him in that heat)…tshirt and shorts….PERSONALLY, I don’t care what someone wears…I myself have the luxury of being able to show up for work in a tshirt and jeans with all of my tattoos out in plain sight….so no, Larry’s dress didn’t “offend” us by any means…however I must admit I was a bit taken aback that they were so casual….in our limited experience with wedding venue shopping…we grew accustomed to folks dressing up a bit more when meeting with potential clients. 3. did I mention the heat?....It felt like we were in a rain forest…it was balmy and downright miserable in there…. 4. He showed us around…but his manner of tour guide was a little more casual and nonchalant from what we had experienced at other venues—again, we’re not fancy people…it was just a little too casual…we didn’t really feel like they had any real formula for handling weddings…we weren’t confident in their ability to handle any issues that can arise with weddings… 5. again I have to mention THE HEAT….while we were there…a photographer showed up…she apparently had an appointment there to do a bride’s bridal portraits…..so i’m thinking…this girl is going to show up in hair, makeup in a big white dress and it’s hotter than hell in there. WHERE’S THE AC????? when the photographer asked about the AC, they just flat out told her…”we’re not turning it on”…..I don’t understand this, why would you book appointments for your venue in the middle of summer and not put the dang AC on?? 6. There’s not really ample parking and the neighborhood seems like it could be a tad sketchy at night…. 7. while we were there…someone was in the DJ area and the guy yelled at them not to touch anything….again it’s that nagging lack of professionalism that kinda stuck with us here (not that we didn’t think he was a nice guy—it’s just not what you expect to witness on a guided tour) The bottom line for us here was this place just really didn’t seem to have their act together. If they’re this unprofessional in the first meeting…what could I expect on my wedding day? Like I said, this place LOOKS really cool…it’s edgy and not your typical wedding venue…and I think that’s what they rely on to get business—because I doubt they’re getting business based on their customer service skills. So like my fellow poster said….BEWARE…and if you’re going to book your event here…do it in the winter so you don’t die from heat stroke.
