"Extremely Dissapointed with the Owner of the Event Planning"

I am very disappointed with the treatment I had today! The person at the front desk (I assume was the owner)of the section that deals with Event Planning & Interior Decorating was on the phone and did not greet or acknowledge me when I entered. After I had looked around, she finally asked (while still on the phone) "Can I help you?" We were celebrating my friends 40th birthday at the bakery next door. Wanting to make it extra special and seeing the beautiful arrangements in front of the store, I went in and asked if it was possible to leave a credit card and borrow one of their silk centerpieces promising to bring it right back and willing to pay if any damages were made to the centerpiece. I was shocked to find myself the target of her anger as she proceeded to tell me (at times she yelled) how dare so many of us presume to think we could just walk in and ask for things for free. She even stated how dare people have the “b-lls” (!) to even ask when she and every other business is struggling financially. She proceeded to instruct me how I should have entered and offered to pay her to borrow her items. She then told me that since I stood there and listened to her griping she was going to give me the centerpiece for free and then proceeded to let me have it some more. I apologized and told her that I was more than willing to have her charge my card for a rental fee, but she said she would give it to me for free because she had yelled at me. I was shocked to have been treated that way! I put my card away which was in my hand the whole time, and disgusted I left without anything. The other person on the phone had to have heard what happened. A few minutes later, another lady (from the Florist section of the store) came to where we were celebrating with a centerpiece in her hand. She told me the owner felt really bad for the way I was treated and offered the centerpiece. While it was a nice gesture on that 2nd lady’s part, I did not accept it because it was not worth the price I had paid of having been belittled. While I understand times are tough, it really was an innocent mistake on my part; truly I had walked in willing to pay if needed. A person with class would have just let me know, nicely, that there was a price for rentals and we would have settled things right then and there. I also feel the owner should have come to me, in person, and apologized. I’m sure she must have had a bad day but I’ve never known a customer to be treated by the owner of an establishment in such a way! I am a Women's Ministries Director of 250+ ladies at my church of 600+ members here in the area as well as the President of my Alumni Association and hold many events . . . I would have used and promoted her business, but due to her poor judgment call, unprofessionalism, and rudeness I will not! I hope she learns from this incident; I know I have. Times are tough but there is never an excuse to treat people badly . . . especially if you’re trying to establish yourself in your community!
