"I wouldn't recommend them"

I chose Jamaal's for my 50th birthday party because of the size of the facility, the proximity to my home, and the available parking. The end result was that I found out that their business practices are not what I would recommend. I paid $1,500 to rent the facility, a $200 damage deposit, a $350 cleanup deposit, and $400 for two police officers for security. I contracted to have my party from 9 pm - 2 am. Even though my mother specifically asked the owner how much time we would have to clean up she didn't really give an answer until she approached me at 9 pm the night of my event to tell me I should have my guests leave at midnight if it would take me two hours to cleanup. Instead of the police officers the contract required that I have two security guards were provided even though I paid for "police officers". During the cleaning of the facilty the owner rudely interacted with my guests and finally locked the doors on us. When I contacted her about my deposits she sent me a check for $75 out of $550. Please beware if you choose to use this facility.

I really appreciated the reviews. I am an event planner and were surfing the web. I thinking about hosting a white diamond gala there but I must move on!!!!! They charge too must to be so tacky what is wrong with people that has a little money and get a kick out of being so rude. It wont be long before there is a for lease sign up. Remember the first is the last. Cleanup or Shipout.

I recently held my wedding reception at Jamaal's. When I first talked to the owner, Parker, I informed her that I was interested in catering services as well. She was more than willing to invite me up to taste foods when they had other events there. I went to two tastings and in both the food was bland and dry. The lady who does the cooking is a less than friendly Ms. Green who apparently used to work for Luby's which would explain the lack of flavor in the food. After I informed Parker that I would be going with another caterer her demeanor completely changed. From there on out it was a battle. Because I solicited her services shortly after opening she did give me the prices she originally opened with which was $1500 rental fee. A couple months before the wedding she informed me that in addition to the $200 damage deposit that I also had to pay a $350 cleaning deposit which was not on my original paperwork. Since I didn't want to forfeit the initial $1000 I paid I still planned to have my reception there. On the upside she did let us come in the hall and set up the day before as much as we could while they were in the Curves gym in the same group building. However, when we came in to set up Parker's despicable attitude was almost to much to bear. She had not cleaned the floors because she said she didn't know if there was going to be an event there or not (even though I had paid her $1500 already and talked to her the day before to tell her that I would be bring the deposit and the last required paperwork). One would think that since she already had my $1500 she could have thouroughly cleaned the building for that much money. She spot swept and spot mopped the floor the day of my wedding with my floor length black linens on the tables (so clearly she didn't use any cleaner or it would have been all over my rented linens. She did of course expect us to clean the entire floor in order to get our deposit back. She also wouldn't let us use or rent the warmers she had in the kitchen for insurance purposes even though my caterer has his own insurance for when he caters at different venues. My caterer was disgusted at Parker's attitude as well. My entire family and wedding party was disgusted by the blatant lack of respect we were shown by Parker and her partner Ms. Green. It is a nice building, although the floors are hideous, but I would recommend that No One solicit their services unless they appreciate being blind sided by fees and treated like trash.
