The Camelia Latinjazz Band can be best described as: Latin rhythms with jazz solos. The group is based in Boston, but willing to travel.
It has added jazz solos not only to the salsa rhythm (which is more common), but also to the merengue, cumbia, bachata and bolero, creating this way what they call: salsajazz, merenguejazz, cumbiajazz, bachatajazz and bolerojazz.
When the occasion calls for a more mellow background music, the bolerojazz and bachatajazz are emphasized, while the salsajazz and merenguejazz are used for a more high-energy and upbeat kind of feel. (The Myspace and Youtube page has live examples of each style.)
The group performs as a trio, quartet, quintet or sextet, depending on the performance situation and venue. Their instrumentation includes classical-electric guitar, keyboard, bass and hand percussions, and their repertoire includes both Latin and North American cover tunes, but always with a Latin tinge.
