"Run down and dirty"

We stayed here in the summer in 2011 - my first time staying in NY. The place has wonderful pictures on the internet and it looks good when you arrive. But the inside is terrible. Some of the amenities listed did not work/function. The kitchen is greasy, dirty, cluttered and depressing with different tiles on the floor as if instead of replacing the whole flooring they patched parts of it. And there are still tiles in the floor that need replacing! The "caretaker" who lives next to the house, who I'm sure is a nice person but with respect to taking care of the house - is a joke. You pay top dollar for filthy and rundown and are expected to clean out the trash baskets in your rooms before leaving...welcome to the big city.

"Just Awful"

We stayed here recently for a family reunion. I have never stayed anywhere this rundown and filthy in my life. If we didn't have so many people coming from all over the country we would have left. Doors don't close, screens don't fit windows. The refrigerator was leaking large puddles of water over the kitchen floor. There are spiders and bugs all over. Dangerous electrical wires running near water. Beds are ancient. The ovens only work sometimes and kitchen inhabited with ants. The only good thing was that at least the mouse in the auditorium sink was already dead! Don't even think about this place.

"Don't Stay Here"

We had a family reunion here this past July 2011. The property and surrounding areas were beautiful and peaceful, but the house, described as "rustic", was dirty, rundown and dilapidated. There were cobwebs, spiders, bugs and moths everywhere - even a dead mouse in a sink. There were holes in the walls, peeling paint and wallpaper everywhere, broken furniture, old uncomfortable mattresses, and worn out bed linens and towels. When it rained the roof leaked in the breakfast room. The pool was green and covered with insects, and the tennis court was not fit to be played on. There was broken glass outside, a wasps' nest close to the kitchen - someone got stung 3 times - and the electrical configurations made us feel unsafe. The refrigerator leaked, and 2 of the bathrooms had leaks too. We reported the leaks and the wasp nest to the owners but they did nothing to fix the problems. I would not recommend this property to anyone - it's overpriced and disappointing.

"Read this before you sign anything!"

Big Indian Springs is not a place that I would choose to stay or rent out for any kind of meeting. Here’s why: We visited Big Indian Springs to determine if it was suitable for a wedding site for our daughter’s June wedding. The owners were unclear about how many guests could be comfortably accommodated (125 at first, 200 at a later date). The initial rate ballooned for each additional hour we might need to arrange decorations before the wedding and clean up after. Bedrooms were small with antiquated mattresses (YUCK!) and most had to share equally questionable bathrooms i.e. mold and mildew in the tin shower stalls, holes where plaster had fallen off the walls, general disrepair throughout , etc. In spite of this, we did sign the contract and gave them $1,000.00 as a deposit because it was what our daughter wanted at the time. After many attempts to reach the owners and express our mounting concerns we were told, “Too bad. You already signed the contract so we’re keeping your money”. One thousand dollars for less than 1 hour of their time and with more than 9 months advance notice is unreasonable and not standard practice in the real and reputable hotel world. We did sign a very one-sided contract, but we had no idea it could turn out this badly and they would be so unreasonable and evasive. We hope this helps any unsuspecting renters make an informed choice.
