"Long Review, Don't Trust This Company for a Serious Event"
David Rivera Davie, FL
March 18, 2009
My wedding is scheduled for April 4, 2009 (2 and 1/2 weeks from the time of this review). I have worked out the details with Chandra at Balloons Galore for the last 2-3 months for this event. We have met in person a total of 4 times. We have talked on the phone at least 10-12 times. We've emailed each other numerous times. We were prompt to every meeting or promised phone call, professional in all conversation, and gave Chandra all of our desires and details for our event. We gave her our full confidence. We received a proposal from Chandra detailing all of our activities and services and we were very happy with the entire process. We immediately advised her in person that we were going to utilize her services. Chandra brought us in for a taste testing for our event and we thought they did a spectacular job with the setup. Aftewards we advised her by email that we were ready to sign the documents and again advised her that we were 100% on board with her company and were looking forward to our event. We requested a single change from the menu item to substitute one of the entrees for another. Chandra said we would not be utilizing the initial proposal to sign as a contract, and that she would instead create us one. At her request, we went to a location where she was hosting an event in Pembroke Pines and tasted the new food choice and advised her we were happy with it. We again re-iterated that we wanted to get the contract completed as our event date was just slightly more than a month away (this was less than a month ago as of this review). She advised us she would have it to us within a few days and we verbally agreed at this location on a deposit amount of $1000. A few days passed, and I had not heard from her so I left her a voice mail on her phone, which is the only number available from her as well as on her website. Another 2 days passed and I had not received a phone call, so I left another voice mail. Again, a day passed without a return call, so I called again and she fortunately picked up. I advised her I had left two messages without a return call and she told me she'd never gotten any messages. I'm sorry? No problem, I said, we just wanted to check the status of the contract. She apologized for the delay and promised me it would be in our hands by the following Monday, a few days away. I thanked her and continued to wait. Monday passed and we received nothing. The event is now 4 weeks away. The next day I contact her, and leave a voice mail advising her that I'm aware how busy she is, but for peace of mind we'd like to get the contract signed and the deposit paid. I was willing at any point to drive to her office with a check to pay what we owed. We wanted to get this done so we could move on with any other last-minute preparations. Over a full day passed and I received no return phone call. My fiancee called her and left a voice mail, similar to mine, requesting a call back so we could complete the finalities. Chandra did not return her phone call either. The next day, we called again and her voice mailbox was full. On Thursday, March 12, I called Chandra's number again and the voice mail was not full any longer. I did not leave a message, but instead decided to make the 25 minute trip to her office during my lunch break to see if she was there in person. I arrive there and am floored to see her servicing a new client for business. She goes from perfect professionality to utter recklesness with my event handling in the blink of an eye, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever that we can possibly think of. Meanwhile, she's still trying to get more business? I knock on her door during her appointment and very courteously advise her that I would like a moment of her time if she has a chance to step away briefly from her appointment. I tell her to please take her time and I'll wait outside, and she nods in respone. I wait outside for 20 minutes and she doesn't come out. I knock on the door again and politely advise her that I'm here on a lunch break, and she asks for a moment to wrap up with her appointment. I ask how long, and she says 15 minutes. I tell her I can't wait and request that she call me right after. She promises she will. I re-iterate that I left her a voice mail and hadn't heard back and that it was important. She said she'll call in 15 minutes. I return to work. 2 hours pass and I've heard nothing. I call her and she picks up. I very courteously advise her that I'm very concerned at this point and give her an opportunity to tell me if there is a problem with my event so I can begin with emergency planning for another vendor or other services if she feels there's any reason she can't do it. She says there's an insurance issue with my location and she's waiting to hear from them. It should be resolved by the end of the day, or the following day, and that she would call me and get us the contract so we can wrap things up. Chandra may not have realized it, but I am friendly with the person who runs the location at which I am getting married. I contacted him immediately afterwards and he advised me he's never heard of her, never spoken with her, and does not handle insurance details with the caterers directly as it is their responsibility. Chandra completely fabricated her story to me. I can only wonder in amazement why she is spinning lies, ignoring us, and completely destroying our agreed upon event plans without reason. I would have rather seen her location closed. At least then I'd know what this whole thing is about. My location contact promises me he will call me if Chandra contacts them. She never does. Days later, I've been forced to scramble now to find a new caterer and rental company for my event which is 2 and 1/2 weeks away. I have not a single indication as to why Chandra's great work planning has turned into some of the most unprofessional business practices I've ever seen. I do not have the time at this point to entertain the services of 4 or 5 different companies to get competitive rates, so I am looking at spending approximately $1,000-$1,500 more for my event than what I had agreed with Chandra for. If you want to plan your event and be left out in the dark with mere weeks to spare, then by all means, Chandra at Balloons Galore is the person to deal with. She'll make sure you have absolutely no idea why you're cut off, too. At this point I've been advised by numerous friends and business associates around me to pursue legal action. I'm seriously considernig it. For now I'm getting the word out there that a wedding is a serious event, and you don't want to trust your event with Chandra and Balloons Galore. If the management at this review site requests documentation supporting my experience, I would be happy to provide it at any moment.
