Her goal is that everything that is said and done in your ceremony have personal meaning for you and your family.

"Would not refer her service "

When we met with her to schedule the day and the ceremony, everything went very well. She even informed us that she was finished with her new book about her dog. We all got along very well and we also were owners of two dogs and were interested in hearing about her story. She seemed very down to earth and easy going. We were very pleased. On the day of the wedding, she was upset/distracted from the previous wedding that day. As a professional, I would have expected her to put away the past event and focus on our wedding. I felt that she carried her frustrations on the previous wedding and transfered them to our own wedding. She was very picky about the candles in the sachets that we agreed to have at our ceremony. We had one for every couple and she instructed the matron of honor that every person is to receive one. Nonetheless, we ran out of candles. It was our decision to have a candle for every couple and did not feel that it was a big deal that every person was not to recieve one. I knew at that point that it wasn't important about our wishes, but only her own. The ceremony went well without any trouble and now one knew of anything that had taken place before. It was until we were signing our marriage certificate that she talked about her new book again. I felt that this was inappropriate and unprofessional. I could understand the promotion of her book when we first met to set everything up, but this was our wedding, not a time to promote her new book. Again, that moment was another example that it was about her and not about our wedding. All in all the ceremony was beautiful. I could have lived without the drama from her as the officiant. If you decide to use her for her services as an officiant, I would advise you to stand your ground and set up a list of expectations before agreeing to pay her for her services. As a note, I am very understanding when things do not go as planned. However, I thought that I would be doing others a disservice if I did not share our experience. Just plan ahead and remember that this is your wedding, not someone else's. Your wedding should be the way you want it to be.
