"Petal's Edge was awful"

I had a horrible experience with Gerry Rogers of Petals Edge Floral Design. I was referred to her by a friend so I trusted that she would do a good job with my wedding. Gerry is supposed to be a "floral designer." She is far from it. She asked to see pictures of arrangements that I liked so she could use them as a baseline for her designs. She merely replicated what I showed her. She is EXTREMELY inflexible. As my wedding date approached, things changed, specifically my wedding colors and the number of arrangements I'd need, and I had to communicate these changes to her. She completely FREAKED OUT to the point where I couldn't work with her. This was taken from one of the emails she sent me three weeks before my wedding: "I am afraid that this situation and your continued demands are becoming unworkable for us, and this does not bode well for a positive working relationship. If you are unhappy, you are welcome to find another florist." If you were a bride and you received an email like this from your florist three weeks before your wedding, would you be happy? I was paying this woman thousands of dollars to treat me like this? I was in a bind. I had already put down a hefty $2,000 deposit and wouldn't be able to get it back, and it was only 3 weeks until my wedding. I had nowhere else to go. On top of all the family drama, the stress, the planning, etc. does ANYONE need to deal with an attitude from a vendor? Luckily, my aunt stepped in and mediated. We finally ironed out a contract and they delivered. The flowers were just ok but I guess I couldn't expect any more. Gerry had obviously ruined our relationship and she obviously didn't care about her company's reputation at this point. Stay away from Petal’s Edge. There are SO MANY other GREAT florists in the Northern Virginia area that are much more qualified than Petal’s Edge. Gerry seems to think that brides should just put down the money and trust that the florist will do their job correctly. If you’re ok with this, Petal’s Edge is for you. If you need to have a decent idea of what you’re going to get on your wedding day, keep looking. My floral budget was the second largest item in my budget so I definitely needed to know what I was getting for my money. I apologize if that is unreasonable. Another bit of advice I will offer is to ALWAYS pay with a credit card when you can. In situations like this, you can always get your money back from the merchant. I paid with a check and learned my lesson the hard way.
