Very disapointed with the wedding services. At first everything seemed great but once that contract was sign problems started coming up. There were alot of hidden fees. We were contracted for 2400, but thats not including, Set up, Chairs, Gratuity, tax, wedding fee and bar. We wanted to do a $100.00 bar tab for our wedding party and they wanted to charge us 200 for the bartender. To set up some simple chairs, they charged us a $100. This strange wedding fee (i still dont know what it means) is $5.00 a person, so the bigger the wedding the more you spend. You hvae to get the wedding cake from them and thats $9.00 a person. Also for the rehersal our wedding planner didnt even help, she was there but did not tell us anything on what to do or where we walk from. The wedding planner works at the Briarhurst so i figured she could at least give us some direction on what to do, but we were left fending for ourselves. Also, we showed up 30 minutes early to start setting up and they kicked us out until the designated time. There was no one there so we were forced to wait in the parking lot for them to say we could come in and set up. The food was ok, not worth $30 a meal. And the staff took the top portion of the cake and served to our guests, we were not allowed to take the top peice home, i was very upsest about that. They made us get ready in a very small bathroom, about the size of any normal household bathroom, it was hot and very cramped. The briarhurst stays open for dinner during the ceremony, so when I was all dressed up in my gown, they led me through the dinning room past everyone that was eating to get to the door where i was to walk from, it was very embarassing. I urge you to look elsewhere for your wedding. This place will only make things harder for you, and I want your day, whoever you may be, to be better than mine. Cheers Sarah
Vendor response: We at Briarhurst have a very different view about Sarah’s wedding reception. We ask you to decide which you want to believe. We have NO hidden fees, in fact we have no fees whatsoever for a wedding reception or a rehearsal dinner. All pricing is fully disclosed in our literature, advisory letters and deposit contracts. The truth is we have hosted more than 3,000 wedding receptions at Briarhurst because of the outstanding value and the quality of the overall experience here. Unfortunately out of the thousands of receptions and the many thousands off attendees there will be a very small percentage where communication is incomplete and someone does not comprehend the disclosures or they just do not read the literature or maybe they do not understand informative advisory letters we send to remind them of these important details. Some people simply do not understand policy and our very simple billing. Our facility is FREE to all who have receptions here. We charge only for food and beverage service plus a service charge and the State of Colorado makes us charge sales tax; unless you want us to do more than what would be "normal restaurant services"; such as decorating, custom linens, floral arrangements, entertainment or a ceremony which includes, space, setup and breakdown). All of this is explained in our deposit contract and our advisory letters. It is our policy to keep it simple for everyone, unless you want us to do more; but then whatever we do is fully disclosed in advance. We do not charge anything for a bartender; bartenders are included in the cost of your meal if drinks are paid for by the host; although we do charge only $100 to have a bartender present for six (6) hours for any event IF the guests are paying for their drinks. We do NOT require anyone to order a cake through us. Cakes may be purchased through any quality licensed bakery. If you purchase a cake through us we provide a custom designed cake per your specifications. We provide a cake tasting. We set up the cake. We cut the cake and serve it to your guest, provide tea and coffee in the manor that you stipulate. In other words we charge $9 per person for a custom cake which also includes tea and coffee for the entire evening. I forget what Starbucks charges for coffee and a coffee cake (over $5?). We use china, linens, our utensils; we wash everything and clean up after you. We also provide a free anniversary dinner for every anniversary and you can receive a free cake top layer just like Sarah will receive a free cake top layer on her anniversary. We do this all at a secluded five acre multimillion dollar very romantic streamside Historic Victorian Manor House. You may choose to have the entire estate for you reception and no one else will be here but you and your wedding party. But, since the estate is so large most people do not want to reserve the entire estate; they will reserve only the portion that suits their individual needs. Our policy is simple; if you want more space, then we would expect you to spend more money. Some people reserve a private room for two, some people reserve two or three rooms, some reserve our beautiful ballroom, some reserve everything. Of course if you reserve three rooms like "Sarah Colorado Springs" then there will other people here using there space at the same time. However in Sarah’s wanted to have an outdoor reception on one of the one of the patios which happens to be in view of other dinner guests. We always want you to have an indoor area and an outdoor area, you can use one or both. We will also reserve special rooms for you if you want more space; special anterooms’ or waiting rooms, dressing rooms, kids room, etc. But, Sarah wanted to save money and did not reserve any extra rooms or space. When Sarah arrived for her reception our premier space was not in use and we voluntarily gave her the use of that dressing area at no charge. You may arrive an hour or two early with your bridal party and use that time at your discretion. We have never “kicked anyone out” for arriving 30 minutes or three hours early. When she arrived we offered the use the premier dressing area, 30%-40% larger and immediately adjacent to her reception area, but she chose to walk forty feet through a dining area with a total of ten tables, two of which were occupied. If she would have expressed a concern about someone seeing her before the ceremony we would have gladly escorted her via other indirect routes to avoid being seen by anyone. Our staff will go out of their way, they will break their backs to please our brides. We have pleased thousands of brides year after year, after year for 35 years. Newspaper reader polls do not lie; we are voted the best place for wedding receptions in the Colorado Springs area every year.
