The original home of the Gourmet Detective in Riverside, California, the Avila Terrace is an intimate restaurant and theatre with indoor and outdoor bars. I love the Avila Terrace. Downtown Riverside is in the midst of a resurgence and it's venues like this that are making it possible. It's new, built I think in 2007. Beautiful decor, with a very intimate feel. I actually discovered it via The Gourmet Detective. The locale hosts a dinner show there every Saturday night, which is in itself a great evening (another story however). Anyhow, if you're looking for a great space that seats probably a touch under 100 people this is it. My hats off to the folks that put this venue together.

I stumbled upon the Avila Terrace while on my search for a venue to host my wedding reception. There were a total of two representatives who worked to answer my questions about the venue and receiving quotes. I received a quote that did not include the information I asked for. When I asked the representative about it (she was very helpful by the way), she instructed me to contact Naomi Avila (I suppose she's the owner/director) directly about my specific needs. I was happy to contact her! However, that quickly changed when I finally got her on the phone. She spoke rudely towards me. I felt like a bother rather than a potential client. She told me that I was getting a good deal because had she been the one to take the call, the price would have been higher. She also asked me why I was calling her even after I explained to her that the representative instructed me to. All in all, while my first impression of the Avila Terrace was outstanding, my second impression is causing me to host my reception elsewhere. I am extremely disappointed because I was looking forward to a smooth process with the Avila Terrace. If communication is this abrasive in the beginning, I can only imagine the wedding day!
